House OKs bill to require SIM card registration

he PNP is looking forward on the House Bill No. 5231, requiring all individuals to register before buying a SIM card for mobile phones.

If signed into law, this bill will be beneficial for the PNP especially during police operations to easily identify distributors and traffickers of child pornography and illicit images, since some investigators are being compromised when telecommunication companies preserve the data of a specific phone number helpful in the police’s investigation due to their protocols.

While waiting for this bill to be signed into law, the PNP assures the public of its strengthened campaign against scams and harassment done over text messages and calls.
