Media Lines re: Phil to receive $17M for Upgrade of Law Enforcement(NR 14-142)

The PNP leadership expresses its profound gratitude to the United States of America for continued support to improve the law enforcement capabilities of the country especially on maritime issues. This donation will greatly help the PNP Maritime Group on its maritime activities as well as on the strengthening of the capacity of other police personnel in addressing extra-judicial killings and other human-rights cases.

This financial assistance is provided under Amendment 3 to the Letter of Agreement on Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement which was both signed by the Philippines and US governments. Thus, the financial assistance will not be directly given to the PNP but it will be used primarily to support the Global Security Contingency Fund Program (GSFP) to assist the PNP and the PCG on its anti-terrorism campaign.

Nevertheless the PNP leadership assures the US government and the public that the donations will be used accordingly and will be partnered with intensified police service and accomplishments.

Moreover, the PNP leadership looks forward to the continued support of the national government and the United States to improve law enforcement in our country.
