First Gun Ban Violator in ARMM is Arrested

Just eight hours after the start of the nationwide election gun ban on September 28, 2013, policemen under the Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG) of Lanao del Sur arrested security guard  DIMARONSING MIBAYAO BORIONGAN at a checkpoint in Barangay Mantapoli, Marantao, Lanao del Sur. Confiscated from the suspect, an alleged member of the Mindanao State University (MSU) security force, was a fully-loaded caliber 45 pistol.

BORIONGAN’s case for violation of COMELEC Gun Ban will be referred to the Lanao del Sur provincial prosecutor’s office even as the PNP of Lanao del Sur is still trying to determine if the gun seized is a loose firearm. If it turns out that the pistol is not registered, the suspect will be further charged for illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm. Coordination is now being made with MSU authorities on this.

PRO ARMM authorities would like to remind everyone that pursuant to COMELEC Resolution No. 9715, the gun ban will be imposed beginning September 28, 2013 until November 12, 2013. They further advised that for policemen and soldiers to be exempted from the gun ban, they must actually be on duty and wearing the agency prescribed uniform.
